Ethiopia | The Tribes of The Omo Valley
In January 2023 I took a 2,700 km road trip around Southern Ethiopia to spend time with and photograph the tribes of Omo Valley. It was a journey that was as confronting as it was beautiful. Important ethical considerations must be navigated with care and often you are invited to witness practices and rituals that when viewed through a different set of beliefs creates meaningful inner conflict. The physical transformations on display force us to consider our own notions of beauty and having some understanding of how these incredible people live, invites us to contemplate what wealth and happiness really are.
The people we met and spent time with were remarkable and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and photograph them. Below is a small selection of images from 5 of the 8 tribes I visited.
